The National Physical Laboratory (NPL) has recently installed an Aberlink Axiom too, CNC Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM) at its Huddersfield based laboratories. The CMM will serve two purposes. As the NPL facility is based close to the M1 and M62 motorways, the Axiom too will act as a very accessible demonstration resource for potential Aberlink customers based in the North of England. In addition, NPL Huddersfield staff will have access to Aberlink’s best-selling CMM in their daily work.
NPL Huddersfield specialises in dimensional inspection and measurement of complex components and assemblies, CMM programming, and bespoke measurement training and consultancy. Services include a rapid response for difficult to measure components that require highly skilled techniques traceable to National Standards. In addition, dimensional measurement against customer supplied drawings and CAD models is delivered by highly skilled engineers using state-of-the-art test equipment in environmentally controlled laboratories.
Andy Morris, NPL Huddersfield Laboratory Manager explained "As the UK's largest measurement centre of excellence, NPL employs nationally recognised experts in metrology with many years' experience inspecting complex manufactured parts.
"NPL offers continuous access to a reliable source of experts and affordable inspection skills at a time when customers are having increased difficulty in retaining high calibre metrology and inspection staff of their own. When required, we are able to teach our service users the best ways to measure their manufactured components and assemblies from first principles through to CMM measurement.
"When dealing with clients we are often asked to recommend a measuring technology to suit their needs, and for this reason we maintain a range of accurate equipment, including a number of coordinate measurement systems, to suit a wide range of requirements. The Aberlink CMM could provide a suitable way to introduce coordinate metrology to businesses with a smaller budgets and a need for 3D metrology to validate their product ranges."
