The speed and accuracy of Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMMs) means that they have become the mainstay of the manufacturing and engineering industries measurement functions.
As the need to understand and operate CMMs has never been greater, Aberlink, the largest UK owned manufacturer of CMMs and 3D measurement software has launched a new CMM, the Aberlink Educate. Aberlink state that the 'Educate' is ideal for use in University Technical Colleges (UTCs), in-house training establishments, Universities' engineering courses and by other similar training providers.
Based on Aberlink's best-selling Axiom too (it is thought that more Axiom too's are currently in use in the UK than any other CMM), Aberlink's Educate is supplied with a comprehensive educational package and can be delivered in either a Manual or CNC format.
"Aberlink CMMs and software have established a global reputation for being extremely easy to use yet feature rich", explained Chris Davies, Aberlink Business Development Manager. "The simplicity and the advanced capability of the 'Educate' means that our new CMM represents the perfect metrology teaching aid for courses covering, from the basics of precision measurement, through to the most complex of subject matters. Also, the CMMs robust construction renders it ideal for students' to gain invaluable hands-on experience."
The Educate CMM utilises Aberlink's famous, intuitive 3D software. A welcome bi-product of any Educate measuring routine is that a simultaneous picture of the measured component is created on the computer screen enabling students to gain a better understanding of the measuring process. Dimensions between the measured features, mirroring those that appear on the component drawing, are then picked off as required. In essence this 'smart' software represents an intelligent measuring system that is able to automatically recognise and define the various features being measured. Aberlink 3D is claimed to be the easiest to use CMM software currently available, as a result students that are unfamiliar with CMMs are usually able to perform relatively involved measurement routines after just 5 minutes tuition.
Prompted by Aberlink's desire to improve the standard of UK metrology training and mindful of squeezed educational budgets, the Aberlink Educate CMM is priced accordingly. Also, additional seats of Aberlink's acclaimed 3D inspection, CAD Comparison and Programming from CAD software modules will be donated to the schools/colleges/universities that invest in Educate machines.
