Nyli, Aberlink's distributors in Sweden have been working with Xylem to incorporate Zenith too CMMs into Xylem's fully automated production facility manufacturing water pumps at the factory in Emmaboda, Sweden. Rough cast pump housings are loaded onto a machining centre by robot. Once machined they are again removed by the robot, cleaned and placed on the CMM for dimensional inspection. Aberlink have written the interface to communicate with the robot utilising a Profibus interface card and therefore when the inspection is completed, the robot removes the housing and places it on an appropriate conveyor depending on the pass/fail status. Nyli have produced the video below to show one particular manufacturing unit, which unmanned is able to produce over 2,000 housings per week running 24 hours per day.
